Furniture Sale, and MORE!

Not only is the house for sale, but so is the furniture! We are moving overseas, and so we cannot take it with us. OUR LOSS, YOUR GAIN.

YARD SALE on Saturday, May 26th from 8:00am to 2:00pm. FURNITURE, jewelry, books, VHS videos, decor, lawn care items, toys, antique dolls, My Loving Family doll house with furniture and dolls, etc. Below are a few photos of furniture items, but not all. These are just to give you an idea of what will be available. There will be other items not pictured below.

I will not hold items for people. First come, first buy. If you can give me cash in hand, it's yours.

OBO means: Or Best Offer. We hope to sell these items at asking price, or to the next best offer we receive.

All money will go toward helping us get re-established (i.e. replace necessary furniture) in our home overseas. All totaled, it doesn't add up to much for helping get re-established. Even so, we can't take it with us. OUR LOSS, YOUR GAIN.

PICTURED BELOW: Dining Table w/leaf and 6 chairs, 2 Large Antique Dressers, Wingback Chair, Area Rug, 2 Nightstands, Queen Bed with topper, frame, and boxsprings, Handsome Desk with Hutch, Dark-Wood 2-drawer File Cabinet with key and lock, 2 quality ergonomic office chairs.

*********************************************************************************

Dining Room Set with 6 Chairs: Solid wood complete dining set with extension leaf and 6 chairs. Chair seats are easy to re-upholster, all you need is a staple gun; I'll show you how. Table can seat up to 8 comfortably with extension leaf. Table has lots of scratches and nicks. Chairs are in good condition, except for one arm chair of which an arm has been broken off. Break the other off and make it even, ha ha!
Paid $600 new. Asking $150, OBO.

Table shown below without the leaf insert, and with only 4 of the 6 chairs. You may test out the leaf insert and see all 6 chairs before purchasing.

Painted White Antique Solid Wood Dresser: 3 Extra-Large drawers, 2 smaller top drawers for socks, underwear, and jewelry.  Drawers glide open and shut easily. Could use another coat of paint (I would suggest a semi-gloss latex spray paint, white or aqua teal, or whatever strikes your fancy). A solid, high-quality piece of furniture.
Asking $75, OBO.
*********************************************************************************

An original Ohio University Wingback Chair: from a previously University owned mansion on Elmwood. Needs re-upholstery. I've purchased a cushion and a golden-tan colored velvet to re-upholster, but never got around to it. For chair and all re-upholstery materials (over $75 cost of materials): Asking $35 for chair and materials, OBO.

***********************************************************************

Woven Wool Area Rug from Ikea: good condition, length 7' 10" x width 5' 7", rug is hand-woven and therefore unique, Woolmark 100% pure wool, naturally soil-repellent and very durable, flat-woven pattern is equally visible on both sides making it reversible, flat-woven is suitable for use in the dining room because it is easy to keep clean and chair can easily slide in and out.
Paid $199. Asking $35, OBO.

DRESSER: Solid Wood, Antique Waterfall Art Deco Gentlemen's Armoire Chifforobe.
A chifforobe is a closet-like piece of furniture that combines a long space for hanging clothes (that is, a wardrobe or armoire) with a chest of drawers. Typically the wardrobe section runs down one side of the piece, while the drawers occupy the other side. The closet side is made of cedar, typically used for its fresh scent. We have put shelves in the closet side, to make more room for folded clothing--but they could easily be removed to restore the option to hang clothes. Two handles are loose/fallen-off, but are in the drawer, so could be re-attached, or replaced with new hardware.

Drawers are deep and spacious. Glide open and shut beautifully, without catching. Completely solid wood, no particle board, no metal gliding racks. THIS IS A VERY HIGH-QUALITY PIECE OF FURNITURE. The likes of it sale between $200-$900 depending on level of repair and restoration.

Asking Price: $150, OBO.

 Tongue and Groove drawer joints.

*********************************************************************************

NIGHTSTANDS: Set of 2. Solid wood, a bit scratched and scuffed, could be re-stained or painted a unique decorative color (this is what I always intended to do, and replace the hardware). Drawers glide in and out beautifully without catching. No particle board, all solid wood. (If new, $99 each for solid wood construction, minimum.) Tongue and groove drawer joints.

Asking price: $20 total for the 2 together ($10 per each).
Handle is loose, but inside of drawer. Could be re-attached, or replaced with new hardware.

*********************************************************************************
QUEEN BED: Simmons Beauty Rest Queen Mattress, Firm with built-in pillowtop and additional Memory Foam topper, split queen box-spring (this alone is worth $50, easier to get through small door-frames), metal bed frame, AND ADDITIONAL queen box spring (the original one, not split and therefore wouldn't fit through our smaller door frame).
Asking $60 total for all 5 pieces.

*********************************************************************************

Desk with Hutch:
Main Drawer slides out and folds down to reveal keyboard and mouse. Hutch has a total of 6 cubbies, two of which are drawers. Asking $60, OBO.

*********************************************************************************

2 Drawer File Cabinet with lock and key:
Attractive solid wood, not an ugly metal file cabinet. The hardware handles that came with the cabinet never fit well with the screws provided. Still has hardware, you can fix it yourself, or add your own hardware. Lock and key work perfectly to lock drawer with sensitive information or private belongings.
Asking $30, OBO.

*********************************************************************************

Office Chairs:

CHAIR #1:
Very similar to this Staples Office Chair, this was purchased 2 years ago, and very lightly used. It is big and tall, ergonomic, and very comfortable. Includes arm rests. Seat hight can be raised and lowered, and angle of recline can be increased or decreased. Purchased for $179. Asking price: $40, OBO.

CHAIR #2:
Very comfortable, adjustable chair. Seat height is adjustable, degree of recline is adjustable. The benefit of not having arm-rests is that the chair tucks under the desk easily, and when swiveling there are no arm-rests to hit keyboard portion of desk. Originally paid $99 from Costco, still in good condition. Asking price: $20, OBO.

Front Room

The front room has a nice picture window and side window, letting in plenty of light. There is some nice wood detailing by the front door, as well as a small built-in bookshelf leading into the hallway. All wood work is original and never painted. The house is in excellent condition from when it was first built, having only housed a single woman prior to us, thus it has been gently used and well-cared for.

The floor plan has a very open flow, while still allowing for separation of living spaces.

The fireplace is functional and gives some warmth and charm in the cold months. The mantle piece is  all original wood and is in excellent, sturdy condition, never been painted, and consistently well-cared for:

The Dining Room

The Dining Room is somewhat open to the Front Room, but also has an element of privacy. There are two large windows in the dining room which let in a good amount of sunlight. There is also a door between the dining room and kitchen that can be closed when desired, perhaps if hosting a dinner and wanting to keep the mess of the kitchen behind closed doors, or to close when the dishwasher is running and wanting to quiet the rest of the house. But most often the dining room door is kept open.

As is the case for most of the house, it looks deceptively small from the outside, but is surprisingly roomy and opens up when you step inside:

Ground Floor Bedrooms #1 & #2

Both ground-floor bedrooms are nearly identical, with two windows on each wall, a closet space opposite the far window, and a plain wall space opposite the near window, as well as two heating/cooling floor vents:

This window faces out the side of the home, which has a privacy fence.

Window and wood floor detail. The window on the right faces out to the back yard, which is completely fenced in with a new privacy fence. The same is true for both bedrooms:

Closet door detail, closet extends beyond door, and is deep:

This door leads out to the same hallway that the other bedroom and ground-floor bathroom lead out to, and although the door may look narrow, it is actually standard size:

Master Bedroom, New Addition

The master bedroom was newly added in the fall of 2009. The space is open and natural light spills in through the windows and onto the floor, with a solar-tube detail for added lighting. This is not your typical attic-cave-like remodel. It is a quiet, well insulated master room, with a few custom details that make the space comfortable and refined, while maintaining its simplicity.

All photos were taken in natural mid-day light. It is a very spacious, open room with plenty of natural light, yet the blinds close to make this a quiet, darkened area for tranquil rest, and peace and quiet. Notice the wood detail has been carefully selected to match the beauty of the original wood work in the rest of the home.

The door and stairs leading up to the master bedroom and office area:

The new addition of the dormer is a perfect place for a bed as shown here, or possibly an office nook, with built-in book shelves detail on left, and ample easy-access storage space behind half door on right (storage space continues the length of the wall, is lit with lighbulbs throughout, and has 2 access points, the half door shown here, and another half door on the wall further to the right--not pictured here):

Closet Details:

"His" and "Hers" closets:

Closet rack extends farther behind wall, for more hanging space than is shown here:

Half door in back of both closets leads to ample easy-access attic storage space, perfect for storing out-of-season clothing, seasonal decorations, etc. Storage space is well lit with easy access to pull-light bulbs:

The storage space extends the entire length of the wall, including over the stairwell, from one end of the room to the other, and is accessible from both closet half-doors.

And yet another half-door access point to ample storage space. This door, picture below, connects to the extra-large storage space that is also accessed from the half-door beside bed in the dormer photo below:

Double the number of electrical outlets, phone jacks, and cable internet connections make it easy to set up office furniture in any arrangement if so desired:

Or possibly a personal home theatre viewing area, with space for a sofa loveseat, etc:
